This tour is based at the outstanding The Queen at Chester Hotel.  Built opposite Chester station to serve first-class rail passengers, this hotel has an illustrious past. This magnificent brick and stucco Italianate building was said to be the first skyscraper of its time. Since opening in 1860, it has hosted guests such as Charles Dickens, Cecil Rhodes and Lillie Langtry.

Included in this tour are a visit to Chirk Castle, a journey on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (includes  afternoon tea), a journey on the River Dee from Chester, and a guided walking tour of Chester.

Day 1

Following pick up from your home address we make our way to Chester with comfort stops en route.

Day 2

Today we head to Llangollen, where you will have some free time before our journey

on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.  The 45-minute return trips take people across the incredible

World Heritage aqueduct, towering 126 feet high with amazing views across the

Dee Valley, making it an exciting and unforgettable experience. Whilst onboard enjoy

afternoon tea which is included.

Day 3

This morning our guide meets us at our hotel for a short walking and coach tour of the city.

They will take us through the history of this outstanding city, from the Romans through to the

modern city that it is today. Later we enjoy a cruise on the River Dee. The rest of the day is free to spend in Chester.

Day 4

Today we head to Chirk Castle, a 13th-century Marcher castle, and home to the Myddelton family from 1595.  It has over 5.5 acres of award-winning garden, including manicured lawns, clipped yews, and stunning views over the Cheshire and Shropshire plains. There is also 480 acres of working parkland and important nature habitats, featuring ancient veteran trees, wildflower meadows and part of Offa’s Dyke.

Day 5  Homeward bound with comfort stops enroute arriving in the local area late afternoon.
