Day 1: Travel to our hotel on the edge of Derbyshire with comfort stops enroute. Arrive in time to settle in before dinner.
Day 2: Our first visit today is to Sheffield Botanical Gardens. Several winding paths take the visitor on an exploration through over 18 different garden areas based on geographical or botanical themes and there are a number of listed buildings for you to explore. It hosts National Collections of several species. Café on site. After, you have a scenic drive through the Hope Valley via Hathersage stopping in Castleton.
Day 3: Today we take a steam train ride on the Peak Railway. The railway goes through lovely scenery and after, there is time in Matlock Bath, the gateway to the Peak District. It was once described by Byron as ‘a romantic fragment of Switzerland set in the heart of England’. While in Matlock Bath maybe visit the Peak District Mining Museum or The Aquarium located in a wonderful Victorian building in the centre.
In the afternoon we make a short journey to take a cruise on the Birdswood canal boat. The 2-hour trip on the Cromford Canal takes you through a variety of landscapes, from open meadows to self-seeded natural woodland.
Day 4: Today we travel to the 900 years old Haddon Hall, one of the country’s most elegant, historically important, and timeless stately homes. It is a magnificent example of a fortified manor house, enjoying fine Tudor and Elizabethan architecture, alongside beautiful Elizabethan walled gardens, which are renowned for their magnificent roses which cascade down the hall’s walls in the summer months. The river Wye runs through the grounds. Your visit includes a guided tour of the Hall and gardens. After, we spend some time in Bakewell, with it’s stone buildings and many independent shops. Don’t forget to try the famous Bakewell pudding!
Day 5: After breakfast we set off for home stopping enroute. We arrive back in the local area l
